Ikat captures the captivating spirit of this ancestral textile art, a symbol of patience, tradition and craftsmanship passed down from generation to generation. The Malay word "ikat" means "to bind" or "to wrap", referring to the ancient dyeing technique where sections of yarn are carefully tied with wax to create patterns. The yarns are then hand-dyed with plant pigments before being woven.
