The late 1980s were a strong period for costume jewellery. Fashion houses devoted real resources to it, and Givenchy in particular produced pieces whose design and craftsmanship rivalled fine jewellery — intricate settings, careful stone setting and selected stones. This brooch belongs to that tradition: it has the precision of a true jewel and the inventiveness of a collector's accessory.
