Céline is known for its bags and canvases; people forget that the house produced jewellery for many years, now much rarer to find. This necklace is a fine example. The Triomphe motif — this chain inspired by the arches of the Arc de Triomphe, just steps from where the house had its boutique — is not applied as an added logo: it is openworked into the very material of the links. The symbol and the object are one and the same.
The design plays on alternation: elongated, flat links openworked with the motif, connected by simpler open links. This rhythm gives the chain its flexibility and movement while retaining a real presence — it is a necklace that stands on its own, without a pendant, and catches the eye from afar without ever shouting. The metal is gold-plated, with even plating throughout, and the Made in Italy inscription appears on the clasp.
Its 64 cm length makes it highly versatile: worn as is, it falls beautifully over a fine jumper, open shirt or plain dress; doubled, it becomes a shorter, fuller choker. Two pieces of jewellery in one, depending on your mood.
