Born in the 1960s alongside its larger counterpart, the Papillon line takes its name from its distinctive cylindrical silhouette which, when placed on a table, vaguely evokes the outspread wings of a butterfly. The Papillon bag quickly became one of the great classics of the Louis Vuitton wardrobe, produced in three sizes over the decades and accompanied by a matching small pouch — the Papillon Pouch — originally designed as a removable cosmetic case slipped inside the bag. It is precisely this pouch that is presented here: a 16 × 7 cm cylindrical mini format featuring all the house codes, the coated Monogram canvas designed in 1896 by Georges Vuitton, natural Vachetta leather trim and handle, and a gold-tone brass zip closure. Now discontinued, it has acquired genuine collector value, particularly sought after by lovers of vintage Louis Vuitton — all the more so as it perfectly suits the micro-bag spirit revived in recent seasons.
