Description & history
A Hermès scarf, The Legends of the Tree · design by Annie Faivre · first edition 1998 · spring-summer collection · 100% silk · hand-rolled edges · 88 × 88 cm · original label present · Made in France · grade B.
The Legends of the Tree is one of Annie Faivre's most narrative creations for Hermès. First issued in 1998, this 90 cm scarf immerses us in the symbolic world of the tree and the myths that accompany it across cultures. The design notably refers to various meaningful plant figures, such as the apple tree of the Hesperides, the biblical olive tree, the cypress associated with immortality, the oak sacred to Zeus and the pear tree linked to the myth of Tantalus.
The construction of the motif is based on a particularly subtle interplay between the trees and their reflections. On the surface of the water appear the symbols and legends associated with each species, creating a composition that can be read as a forest but also as a map of mythological narratives. This iconographic richness is characteristic of Annie Faivre's work, whose scarves are recognisable by their abundant, meticulous and extensively researched designs.
Made from silk and manufactured in France, this scarf retains its distinctive finishes, with hand-rolled edges and its original label. Its 88 × 88 cm dimensions offer all the styling possibilities inherent to the scarf format: around the neck, tied at the waist or in the hair. A sufficiently versatile piece to be worn every day while retaining the artistic dimension that makes Hermès creations so appealing.
Good overall condition, grade B — the scarf shows slight signs of previous use but no major flaws to report. It has no stains, holes or odour. The original label is present. To preserve the silk and its colours, dry cleaning only is recommended.
A particularly interesting vintage piece from 1998 for collectors of Hermès scarves and admirers of Annie Faivre's work. It will be carefully packaged by RARR Vintage and accompanied by its RARR Vintage certificate of authenticity.
