The Ophidia collection was launched by Alessandro Michele for Cruise 2018 at Gucci — its name comes from Greek and means “little snake”, a symbol of wisdom and creativity. The Ophidia Mini Round in black suede is introduced for the FW2018 collection in two versions: black suede with patent leather outline, and GG Supreme canvas. The suede version is the rarer and more sought-after of the two — the black velvet of the suede absorbs light where the glossy varnish of the outline reflects it, creating a matte/shiny textural contrast that makes the bag visually irresistible.

The green and red grosgrain web ribbon on the front is the house's oldest and most recognizable Gucci signature — inspired since 1951 by the equestrian saddle straps that the Guccis originally made for the English gentry. It has become one of the most identifiable visual codes of global luxury. On the round format of the Ophidia, the vertical Web ribbon creates a powerful graphic axis which structures the circular silhouette and makes it immediately visible from a distance. The 122 cm gold chain, incorporating a patent leather insert for greater comfort on the shoulder, can be worn crossed as a long shoulder strap - a fluid and relaxed fit that contrasts nicely with the sculptural character of the bag.

How to wear it — 4 ways:

In the evening or cocktail — long crossed chain, on a black dress, a jumpsuit or a dark monochrome ensemble. Black suede and colorful ribbon create an immediate stylish statement. The bag does all the work.
