The silk carré holds a special place in the Chanel wardrobe: a discreet accessory that nevertheless embodies all the expertise of silk printing. This one plays on a controlled contrast — a vast plain ecru centre, and a fully worked border in a radiant composition, where ochre-gold rays emerge from a frieze of ornamental medallions punctuated with blue-grey and burgundy touches. The « CHANEL » signature appears along the border, without ostentation. The result is a graphic yet understated carré, equally suited to a coat or a summer outfit.
The silk, soft and fluid, ties easily and holds its fold well. The edges are hand-rolled: this rounded hem, sewn stitch by stitch, is the traditional finish of quality carrés and is immediately distinguishable from a machine hem. It gives the scarf its characteristic drape and slight thickness around the edge.
