Macadam was born in the 1970s, when Céline adapted the motif from the Triomphe crest into coated canvas — a chain inspired by the arches of the Arc de Triomphe, just steps from the house's boutique. Repeated endlessly against a deep brown background, it creates a graphic, understated print, less showy than most monograms of its era. This restraint is what gives vintage Céline its charm today: a clear signature, recognisable to those in the know and discreet to everyone else.

This model comes in a bucket version, a shape far rarer than satchels and totes in the house's vintage collection. The body closes with a sliding leather drawstring threaded through gold eyelets; two patch pockets flank the sides, making all the difference in everyday use — a phone on one side, keys on the other, without having to rummage through the bottom of the bag. The adjustable shoulder strap allows it to be worn on the shoulder or crossbody. The natural leather piping, base and drawstring have developed a beautiful caramel patina, and the Céline Paris logo is heat-stamped on the front. Made in Italy, serial number F09.

Grade C+ — a well-loved piece, described candidly. The coated canvas is clean and in good condition, as is the base, with slight rubbing on the edges. The leather drawstring is slightly cracked and the hardware plating is faded, as shown in the photos. The shoulder strap has slight rubbing. The interior is in good condition, with signs of previous use and a patch pocket. No major flaws to report; everything is documented in the photos. Sold with dust bag and RARR Vintage certificate of authenticity.
